Sharks' Karlsson: 'I Didn't Sign Here For a Rebuild'
Erik Karlsson of the San Jose Sharks is not happy with the direction of team management after news dropped the team would be 'resetting'.
The veteran defenseman and long-time Ottawa Senator made his way to San Jose via trade and then decided to sign long-term in 2019 to chase a Stanley Cup. He's still trying to catch it.
Recently general manager Doug Wilson told Kevin Kurz of The Athletic the Sharks are headed for a 'reset', which really could mean anything. Will Brent Burns get dealt? Evander Kane? Martin Jones? Who knows at this point as trades are hard to come by but one thing Wilson knows is he's looking to the future and not trying to win-now.
Here's what Karlsson had to say about Wilson's state of the union address:
Obviously, I did not sign here to go through a rebuild or go through what I did for 10 years in Ottawa. But it is what it is. I think that we need to find a way to build with a core group that we have here and figure out a way how to be competitive here in the upcoming years. I mean, I think after the year we had last year, I think it was pretty, pretty clear that we were not going to be the team that we were maybe the first year that I got here. You know that doesn't take rocket science to figure out.
Sounds like some trouble in paradise. The two-time Norris winner has scored two goals and seven assists in 21 games this season. We'll have to wait and see if this escalates before the April 12th deadline.
