Three Trade Chips for the Buffalo Sabres
The Buffalo Sabres have put up a for sale sign and they are ready to make multiple trades. General manager Kevyn Adams is not happy how things have turned out so far this season for his club and the GM is working aggressively to make a deal.
Earlier this week Adams mentioned the entire team was under evaluation including himself and his head coach. There's been a ton of rumors about Jack Eichel but at this point the player has not requested a trade. Taylor Hall's agent keeps chatting extension with Adams and this could come to fruition before season's end.
As for trade candidates, the Sabres are most likely to move these three players before the April 12th trade deadline:
Eric Staal, C
The 35-year-old center signed a one-year deal in Buffalo in hopes of rekindling a fire with ex-Hurricanes teammate Jeff Skinner. It hasn't worked out for either. Staal has a modified trade clause where he submits 10 teams he doesn't want to be traded to. So far this season the veteran pivot has recorded three goals and eight points in 22 games. Teams likely interested include the Carolina Hurricanes, Pittsburgh Penguins and Chicago Blackhawks.
Sam Reinhart, RW
Besides moving Eichel or Hall, Reinhart is the biggest trade chip the Sabres have. The 25-year-old is having a good season with nine goals and 17 points in 20 games. He's set to be a restricted free-agent at the end of the season and will be looking for a raise from his $5.2 million. Reinhart has been linked to the Calgary Flames in a deal.
Brandon Montour, RHD
The 26-year-old pending unrestricted free-agent is making $3.85 million and is on his way out of Buffalo. It never really worked out for Montour after coming over from the Anaheim Ducks and he's set to be moved by Adams. So far this season Montour has recorded four assists in 20 games. It's been an off year for Montour who's capable of producing 30-40 points a season. He mid as well not buy green bananas because he'll be moving soon.
