Vancouver Canucks Defenseman Generating Trade Interest
The Vancouver Canucks currently sit five points out of a playoff spot in the North division and could very well start to sell off some assets before the April 12th trade deadline. One name that is generating interest to this point is defenseman, Nate Schmidt. This according to Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet.
While the team has received a number of trade inquiries for teams across the league, to this point the Canucks and general manager Jim Benning have no interest in moving Schmidt.
The two-way defenseman and dressing room beauty signed with Vegas for six seasons and was quickly traded to the Canucks to clear up some cap space. He's making $5.95 million on the cap for four more seasons with a modified trade clause where he submits a list of 10 teams he's not interested in playing for.
Not a ton of teams have cap space but one team that is interested is the Chicago Blackhawks.
To this point, don't expect Schmidt to be dealt this season, but hey, stranger things have happened around Jim Benning.
