VIDEO: Blackhawks Captain Jonathan Toews' Message for Patrick Kane on Milestone Night

Chicago Blackhawks' star Patrick Kane is playing in his 1,000 National Hockey League game tonight against the Dallas Stars, and his captain, Jonathan Toews, had a special message for him.

"It's been a special ride to be a part of it with you since day one -- since we were rookies," Toews said. "Pretty incredible. Prud of you. Wish I was there to celebrate with you. See you soon, man."

At 32-years-old, Kane passes Brent Seabrook as the youngest Blackhawk in history to reach the 1,000-game mark. This season, he has been every bit as good as he has ever been, working at an over-a-point per-game pace, totalling 38 points, including 11 goals in 26 games, not including tonight.

If not for some shuffling around with the NHL schedule due to COVID-19 postponements and the Texas power outages in late February, Kane would have actually played his 1,000th game this past Sunday at home against the Tampa Bay Lightning.

Kane told Chicago's Daily Herald that had the game happened at the United Centre instead of in Dallas, his family would have been able to watch the game from the stands. According to the Herald, that makes three straight milestones his family has missed. They also had to miss his 1,000th point in January 2020 and his 400th goal just last month.

The Hawks plan on hosting a ceremony to commemorate his achievement on March 23. But, without fans. Before the game, Kane sent out a Twitter message to Blackhawks fans saying he is looking forward to celebrating his two latest milestones later in the season with fans in the seats.

"Blackhawks fans: this has been a weird year," Kane said. "We miss your energy. We miss your passion. We miss the excitement you bring during the anthem.. and obviously ...hearing a roar after a big win. As my 1,000th game approaches, I can't help but think about you guys. These great moments are meant to be shared with friends, family and obviously, you great fans.

"I've dreamed of sharing this moment with you, so that's what we're going to do. When it's safe to pack the United Centre with all 21,000-plus of the best fans in sports, we'll share that moment together. Until then, stay safe, stay healthy and Go Hawks."

As for his captain and good buddy Toews, there is still no news on when he will return to the lineup. He was placed on the Blackhawks' long-term injured reserve in January for an undisclosed illness. Toews told fans and the media before this year's training camp that he experienced symptoms that had left him feeling "drained and lethargic."

There has been radio silence since then. Toews is working with doctors to better understand his condition.
