VIDEO: Maple Leafs' Auston Matthews Scores Amazing OT Winner
The Battle of the North Division did not disappoint on Thursday night as the Toronto Maple Leafs and Winnipeg Jets put on a show. And while Jets goaltender Connor Hellebuyck was the story of the night, Auston Matthews made sure to end the game in beautiful fashion in overtime.
The Maple Leafs outshot the Jets 38-27 and were having some 10-bell chances all night but couldn't put it past the former Vezina winner. William Nylander of the Leafs scored his 11th of the season to tie the game early on in the third period on a sick feed from John Tavares, and while Nylander buried his chance, he should of had four goals on the night. Instead Hellebuyck was lights out and kept his Jets teammates in the game.
That was until the extra frame where Matthews who is battling a wrist injury and can't fire the puck like he's used to right now, used some soft hands to make Hellebuyck look silly.
Here's a display of some of the nicest hands in the league as Matthews leads the entire NHL with 21 goals, five more than anyone else:
