Washington Capitals Secure Some Goaltending Depth
The Washington Capitals have announced they have signed goaltender Zachary Fucale to a two-year contract extension. The deal is a two-way contract as Fucale is currently in the minors for the franchise.
So far this season, the 25-year-old has been lights out between his one start in the ECHL and his six starts in the AHL for the Hershey Bears. Fucale has posted a 1.49GAA and a .942 save % so far this season.
Fucale was once a promising prospect of the Montreal Canadiens after being selected in the 2nd-round of the 2013 draft. While he's never appeared in an NHL game, Fucale's numbers in the minors are comparable to any goaltender outside of the NHL and he's represented his country multiple times at the Spengler Cup and was a standout at the World Juniors.
The Capitals secure Fucale to their system for at least two more seasons and the team is still in the market for a veteran who can step in this season. Names like Devan Dubnyk and David Rittich have been linked to the team so far in trade rumors.
