Blue Jackets Zach Werenski Done For The Season
The Columbus Blue Jackets will be without defenseman Zach Werenski for the rest of the season after the d-man underwent sports hernia surgery.
The 23-year-old has been dealing with the injury for most of the season and now that the Blue Jackets are likely to miss the playoffs and are starting to trade off their assets, Werenski felt it was the perfect time to get under the knife.
Blue Jackets general manager Jarmo Kekalainen had this to say to the media about losing one of his best players:
Zach has been playing through the injury for most of the season and as much as we would like to have him in the lineup, having the surgery now is the right decision and will allow him to be 100% before the start of training camp in the fall.
Werenski has scored 20 points in 35 games this season and is playing just over 24 minutes a night. He's as reliable as they come and will continue to be a huge piece of the franchise moving forward. When he makes his way back to the ice at training camp next season, Werenski should expect to see some new teammates on the roster and could very well have a new coach.
Keep an eye on the Blue Jackets this weekend, they have some tricks up their sleeves.
