Dallas Stars Claim Veteran Defenseman from New Jersey

Sami Vatanen is headed back to the western conference as the Dallas Stars have claimed the veteran defenseman from the New Jersey Devils.

The 29-year-old is under contract for $2 million this season and is a pending unrestricted free-agent at the end of this season. So far in 30 games, he's recorded six points and the Stars are hoping he's able to find his scoring touch from the season's where he tallied close to 40 points a season.

This is an audition for Vatanen as the Stars are barely hanging on to playoff hope and could use some help on the right side of defense. Dallas has also been rumored to be interested in moving some of their pending free agents so there's even a chance Vatanen could be moved before the 3pm eastern deadline.

His 26 points in 51 career playoff games could be appealing for a contender. Keep an eye on Vatanen as this could be getting more interesting by the hour.
