Done Deal: Canucks and Blackhawks Announce a Trade

The Chicago Blackhawks are interested in adding more than just cap space as they have moved on from becoming financial flexibility to other teams and have acquired Adam Gaudette from the Vancouver Canucks.

The 24-year-old pivot was a former fifth-round selection of the Canucks and made his way across the internet before this season started for kicking his wife in the face at their wedding. Gaudette moved on from his accident and has appeared in 33 games for the Canucks, scoring four times and collecting seven points.

Gaudette has the remainder of this season on his contract and will become a restricted free-agent at season's end. As for the Canucks, they acquired Matthew Highmore in this deal who is a 25-year-old versatile winger who was undrafted. He's under contract for this season and next at a $725,000 cap hit.

In 24 games this season Highmore has yet to score and has recorded two assists. He did however score three playoff goals last season in nine games and the Canucks are hopeful with the right opportunity, Highmore will be able to find his scoring touch that saw him pot 43 points in 64 AHL games.

The Blackhawks are expected to not be done by any means after this minor deal and are working on other deals which we can expect to see announced between now and 3pm eastern.
