John Tortorella Appears to be Finished in Columbus
According to Darren Dreger of TSN the Columbus Blue Jackets are not expected to have John Tortorella behind the bench for game one of next season. The controversial head coach is expected to coach the remainder of this season and then the Blue Jackets will be moving on.
Torts is a tough coach to play for and it seems like players either love him or really struggle to get into his good books. We've seen it numerous times over the years and this season has been no different with him benching Patrik Laine just a few games into his Blue Jackets career and now we see it with scratching Max Domi.
This is Tortorella's sixth season in Columbus after stops with the New York Rangers, Vancouver Canucks, Tampa Bay Lightning and as an assistant with the Arizona Coyotes franchise. Torts won a Stanley Cup back in 2003 with the Lightning and has been eliminated the past two seasons in the second round.
His coaching style is tough, it's about accountability and his mind is always spoken. Torts is one of the best quotes in sports and you just never know what kind of mood he'll be in when the microphone is in front of him.
While it appears this will be it for John Tortorella in Columbus, don't expect him to be unemployed very long.
