Montreal Canadiens Acquire Defenseman from Philadelphia Flyers

The Montreal Canadiens have acquired some more defensive depth as the team has traded for Erik Gustafsson from the Philadelphia Flyers.

The pending unrestricted free-agent has played in 24 games so far for the Flyers this season and has recorded 10 points. This is one of those under-the-radar type of adds and considering the Habs only had to give up a 7th-round pick, you have to say it's a worthy gamble for Canadiens general manager Marc Bergevin.

You can never have too many defensemen for the playoffs and some teams like to carry eight capable NHL d-men on their depth chart, and you can't really blame them.

Gustafsson was a former fourth-round pick of the Edmonton Oilers and he's appeared in 245 career NHL games, recording 129 points. Two seasons ago he recorded a whopping 60 points in 79 games for the Chicago Blackhawks so again, what a pickup for Bergevin and the Habs.
