It was surprising to us all to see Mete's name on yesterday's waiver list and there was a general consensus he would be claimed today. The 22-year-old defenseman has appeared in 14 games this season, collecting three points. The former fourth-round selection fell out of favor with the Habs and was battling each week to get into the lineup. When the Canadiens acquired Jon Merrill from the Detroit Red Wings, it put the writing on the wall for Mete.
He'll look to kick start his career with the Senators and his new head coach DJ Smith is very familiar with his game from his days with the Maple Leafs and in the OHL.
Look for Mete to receive some big minutes down the stretch here. He'll be a pending restricted free-agent at season's end and could play himself into a long-term contract extension in Ottawa.
