Red Wings Defenseman to be Traded
The Detroit Red Wings have already been involved in one trade this weekend and it appears more moves are coming as the team scratched defenseman Jon Merrill on Saturday. According to multiple sources the Wings have held trade discussions with several teams including the Boston Bruins.

The 29-year-old pending free-agent is one of the least expensive rentals on the market. Merrill is only making $925.000 this season and has played in 36 games, adding five assists.
Merrill has been solid for the Wings in his first season but general manager Steve Yzerman wants to move on and turn his cheap free-agent signing into a draft pick or prospect. The savvy GM is one of the most creative minds in the industry so even though Merrill won't fetch a ton via trade, there's a good chance someone overpays to acquire him.
#RedWings Blashill confirmed that Jon Merrill was a healthy scratch, so it appears good chance he'll be moved by Monday's 3 p.m. deadline.

While the Bruins continue to negotiate a deal with the Red Wings, Winnipeg Jets, Montreal Canadiens and Washington Capitals all have different levels of interest.
