Rumor: Brent Burns to the Seattle Kraken

According to multiple reports the Seattle Kraken are expected to take a long-look at San Jose Sharks defenseman Brent Burns, as they create their roster this upcoming offseason.

Burns has been a staple for the Sharks defense and continues to be a threat on both sides of the puck. He's a character guy who's beloved by his teammates and the fans of the Sharks and him leaving would certainly 'reset' their team as general manager Doug Wilson is looking to do this offseason. Burns has been one of the bright spots this season with 27 points in 48 games.

It's believed that the Sharks are looking to shed some payroll and see the expansion draft as an avenue to do so. The Sharks do have Erik Karlsson and Marc-Edouard Vlasic who both hold no-movement clauses and can't be exposed.

One report included:

Erik Karlsson and Marc-Edouard Vlasic, have full no-move protection and are unlikely to waive it. Internally, it’s a decision the Sharks will need to wrestle over and if they do make Burns available, then it’ll be up to Seattle to decide if it wants to add a 36-year-old, earning $8 million until 2025.

There's no doubt it would be an expensive selection for a team who has a clean slate when it comes to the salary cap but the dressing room is going to need some personality to create bonds and the team dynamic and there's no bigger personality than Brent Burns.
