Rumor: Tony DeAngelo to the Montreal Canadiens
According to Darren Dreger of TSN, the New York Rangers were in discussions with Anthony DeAngelo to terminate his contract before Monday's trade deadline and it turns out DeAngelo didn't want to accept. Even with the Montreal Canadiens being very interested in signing him.
NYR were willing to mutually terminate Tony DeAngelo’s contract to allow him to pass through waivers and sign as a free agent. Montreal believed to very interested as early as this weekend. However, DeAngelo opted not to accept. He will be bought out of his contract this summer.

DeAngelo was of course sent home by the Rangers earlier this season for a variety of reasons including chirping his goaltender after an overtime loss. It's certainly been curious to watch this all unfold and how it's taken this long for any news to drop after the early reports were that DeAngelo was generating a ton of interest from around the league when he was initially sent home.
Expect to see a buyout as Dreger mentions sometime this summer. The 25-year-old defenseman has next season on his contract, paying him $4.8 million. He appeared in six games this season, only recording one point, however is capable of being a top-four defenseman and providing some scoring punch from the back-end. DeAngelo was coming off a career season which saw him record 53 points in 68 games.
So Habs fans....will you be ok with DeAngelo signing in Montreal this summer?
