Rumor: Winnipeg and Columbus Discussing Another Trade
The Winnipeg Jets and Columbus Blue Jackets already gave us one blockbuster trade this season and there's a chance another deal could be coming down the pipe this week. The Jets are trying to acquire a defenseman and the Blue Jackets are shopping pending free-agent David Savard.
There's still a small chance the Jackets hold on to Savard to try and re-sign the right-handed defenseman, but from all accounts the expectation from several insiders will be the Jackets will try and maximize the return on their asset.
So far this season the 30-year-old Savard has recorded six points in 39 games and is a legit top-four defenseman. Savard is one of the leading defensemen in the NHL when it comes to blocks and hits and would give the Jets a huge upgrade on their right-side.
Savard is making $4.25 million on the cap this season, and the Jets would need to move some money out to make the deal work. Someone like forward Mathieu Perreault could be included in the deal to balance out the books. The Jets would need to also include a top-prospect to get the Blue Jackets attention.
Expect to see team's like the Boston Bruins, Chicago Blackhawks, and the Tampa Bay Lightning to all make offers to Columbus.
This week is going to be entertaining, buckle up NHL fans!
