Tough News for Winnipeg Jets Defenseman
The Winnipeg Jets will be without defenseman Nathan Beaulieu for the rest of the season after the blueliner underwent surgery to repair a torn labrum.
The rugged d-man hasn't played a game since March 9th and in the 25 games he managed to appear in, Beaulieu recorded one assist. With the news the Jets can now move Beaulieu's salary cap hit of $1.25 million to long-term injury reserve and obtain some more flexibility before the trade deadline on April 12th.
The team is rumored to be interested in several defensemen on the trade market including David Savard of the Columbus Blue Jackets and Mattias Ekholm of the Nashville Predators. With the news of Beaulieu being shelved for the season, Jets' fans can expect to see more of youngster Logan Stanley on their bottom pair, who head coach Paul Maurice calls the team's biggest surprise so far.
