Video: Andrew Shaw's NHL Career is Over
Andrew Shaw had to make one of the hardest decisions of his life on Monday as the 29-year-old announced his official retirement from the NHL. This hasn't been an easy process for Shaw as Doctor's have advised him to step away so he can enjoy the rest of his life with his family.
Shaw has battled a number of concussions over the years as he was never one to shy away from the physical contact of the game he loved. He spent 10 seasons in the league and had this to say in a statement on Monday:
“Thank you for giving a Mutt a home.”

Shaw's played 14 games this season, and will make his way to long-term injury reserve until after next season. He's recorded 116 goals and 247 points in 544 career NHL games. Shaw goes out a proven winner who provided two Stanley Cup teams in 2013 and 2015 with a fierce competitor who was never afraid to stick up for his teammates.
With today's decision he's sticking up for his life and you have to applaud the move! Congrats on a great career Andrew Shaw.
