Video: Capitals Goalie Pulled by Concussion Spotter After Hit to the Head
Thursday night we saw some friendly fire early on as Washington Capitals forward TJ Oshie collided with goaltender Ilya Samsonov and knocked his own goalie out of the game for most of the first period.
The play happened against the New York Islanders as Oshie cited miscommunication as the reason behind the whole thing:
Just a little miscommunication on the call on what the play on the puck was. I think he was thinking he was just trying to get it out of there and I was thinking that he was going to leave it. I felt terribly, obviously. I've been hit in the head a couple times and I'm very aware of the protocols and stuff like that so I was probably more excited than most to see him get back out there and go in the net.
Samsonov was pulled by the concussion spotter but later returned to the game to give up six goals on 24 shots. Here's the play that started the Capitals off on the wrong foot on Thursday:
