Wayne Gretzky Comments On What He's Seeing From Connor McDavid
If you ask the greatest player to ever lace up the skates, Wayne Gretzky will tell you he thinks there's a legit chance Edmonton Oilers superstar Connor McDavid can reach 100 points this season. Friendly reminder this season is only 56 games long.
Gretzky recently spoke with Sportnet's Mark Spector and had this to say about #97:
It wouldn't surprise me if he gets more than 100 points. Just to show people he's capable of doing it. What he's doing is once in a generation, and what he's doing today is a lot tougher than I did. Although I'm proud of what I accomplished, all the things we did, these players today are coached differently, the equipment is better, they're coached different. It's tougher to play. I'm the first guy to tell you that.
It must feel good to wake up in the morning and receive praise from Wayne Gretzky. McDavid is a runaway lock for the Art Ross Trophy as he's leading the race by 13 points. McDavid needs 23 points over his last 11 games to hit the century mark and according to Spector it would give him a 1.79 points-per-game average, a pace that only nine other players have matched over a 56-game span.
Look for McDavid to keep rolling on Monday as the Oilers take on the Winnipeg Jets. One thing's for sure, the Great One will be keeping his eye on the box score.
