The 22-year-old Poehling was having a breakout season for the AHL's Laval Rocket, tallying 11 goals and 25 total points in 28 games played. The former first-round pick from 2017 has been on the team's radar for sometime including after he scored a hat-trick and the shootout winner against the Toronto Maple Leafs during the final game of the 2019 regular season.
As for Poehling's Rocket teammates, they were busy clinching the Canadian Division in the AHL, and Poehling's Canadiens are busy taking on the Leafs on Thursday day. Too bad for him he won't be able to show he belongs in this season's playoffs.
