New York Rangers Have Favorite for Head Coaching Gig

The New York Rangers aren't wasting any time as General Manager and President of Hockey Operations Chris Drury has received permission to speak to Gerard Gallant regarding the teams' vacant head coaching position.

After being left to find his own taxi in Florida, to the strip of Vegas, Gallant has been around the block and has the experience Rangers ownership is looking for to build a culture. It didn't take long for Gallant to be named the favorite and if all things go well in his interview, there's certainly a chance he could be named head coach next week.

Gallant was fired last January from Vegas and has been looking for work since. There was some rumblings he would be hired in Seattle, but that hasn't come to fruition just yet, which helps the case of Rangers. The 57-year-old is set to coach Team Canada at the World Championships in Latvia this month and this should help him propel himself behind the Rangers bench.

Gallant would bring a polished resume to the Big Apple, and playoff success. He won three playoff series in Vegas and compiled a 118-75-20 record.
