Oilers Josh Archibald Suspended One Game For Clipping Jets Logan Stanley

Edmonton Oilers forward Josh Archibald has been suspended for one game after clipping Winnipeg Jets defenseman Logan Stanley. The play happened during the third period of Game 3 which kick-started an epic comeback for the Jets.

Archibald was assessed a minor penalty for tripping as he low-bridged the towering Stanley. He will sit Game 4 of the series which is slated for Monday night as the two teams get right back at it after an entertaining game on Sunday.  The league released the following message regarding the hit:

As (Archibald) approaches Stanley, he drops excessively low to the ice, driving his torso into Stanley's knee with force (and) sending him crashing to the ice. The NHL added that while it was aware of the significant height difference, a player isn't allowed to intentionally lower his body to hit an opponent at or below the knees.

The Jets trailed 4-1 at the time and Archibald's antics completely changed the momentum of the game as the Jets capitalized on the ensuing power play. The Oilers will be without their most physical forward, while Stanley managed to stay in the game and should draw back in Monday. The towering defenseman has been a bright spot for the Jets this season as his head coach loves his ability to use his positioning and long stick to his advantage. Coach Maurice now also loves his ability to draw penalties. Here's the play:
