Ottawa Senators Finished With Young Goaltender

The Ottawa Senators have decided they are not interested in bringing back goaltender Marcus Hogberg next season. General manager Pierre Dorion confirmed the news on Friday.

The 26-year-old netminder finished out his two-year contract this season, seeing him make $700,000. He appeared in 14 games, posting a 3.74GAA and a .876 save %. Obviously the production wasn't up to par and the Sens felt they are now better suited moving in a different direction.

The Senators are expected to give youngster Filip Gustavsson a long look next season as the 22-year-old has impressed at different times this season. The team still has Matt Murray signed to a long-term contract, and there are some rumblings he will be exposed to the Seattle Kraken's expansion draft.

Ottawa showed a lot of promise in the second half of this season, but most of it came from their young group of forwards and some newcomers on defense. Their goaltending remains their biggest question mark moving forward and with the amount of talent available within the free-agent class, Sens fans are curious to see who will be between the pipes for them game one next season.
