Rumor: Pittsburgh Penguins to Upgrade Goaltending

The Pittsburgh Penguins are trying to swallow another season of disappointment after yet another early playoff exit. The Pens haven't won much in the last four seasons and their core wants to keep things in tact and carry on forward. However, while the likes of Sidney Crosby, Kris Letang and Evgeni Malkin may not be moving, one thing that could be changing for their franchise is goaltending. According to Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet, he sees the Penguins upgrading their goaltending this offseason.

Friedman sees the Penguins either signing a veteran to pair with Tristan Jarry or finding a whole new #1 goalie altogether. You have to remind yourself that Ron Hextall and Brian Burke are just getting started in Pittsburgh and don't really have any ties to much of the roster. Jarry, much like a new coach, the management duo could look to bring in 'their guy' into the crease. Unfortunately goaltending was a major reason why the Penguins are looking for tee-times right now while the New York Islanders are preparing for another game against the Boston Bruins.

Some names to consider for the Penguins include upcoming free-agents Philipp Grubauer and Frederik Andersen, along with Annti Raanta, David Rittich and Tuukka Rask. There's certainly going to be a ton of movement when it comes to the crease of the NHL and the Penguins are going to be dead smack in the middle of it all.
