Rumor: Tyson Barrie Leaving Edmonton This Summer

According to Darren Dreger of TSN, Tyson Barrie will test the open market this offseason. Barrie went to the Edmonton Oilers to bet on himself and boy, oh boy did it work out . He's enjoyed himself a bounce back season after a bad experience with the Toronto Maple Leafs and was able to find his scoring touch, leading all NHL defensemen in scoring. While he's enjoying his time with the Oilers, the team has some serious financial decisions to make next season and it's becoming more clearer that Barrie won't be back.

The offensive defenseman has priced himself out of range for the Oilers as they have a number of players to take care of next season. Barrie is making $3.75 million this season and the 29-year-old is looking at his next contract as the one to 'secure the bag'. He wants long-term of at least a five-year deal, and figures are expected to be north of $7 million per season. This is too rich for Oilers' general manager Ken Holland's blood.

Barrie will have a long list of suitors as right-handed offensive defensemen are a rare breed. He's presenting himself along with Carolina Hurricanes defenseman Dougie Hamilton as the two best options on the free-agent market. The two will be able to use each other for leverage to drive the price up.

Sorry Oilers fans, enjoy the playoff run, after that, sounds like Tyson Barrie is packing his bags.
