2 Possible Landing Spots For Alec Martinez

Alec Martinez is somebody who the Vegas Golden Knights certainly want to keep. However, it will be a hard task for them, as they do not have a lot of salary cap room. Martinez also had himself a career season, so he would get a significant raise on the open market.

Martinez is a legitimate top-four defenseman, so there will be many teams looking to acquire his services. There are risks in signing a 33-year-old who may fall out of his prime soon, but he could be an excellent addition on a short-term contract. With him getting 32 points in 53 games this season, he certainly is worth the gamble.

These two teams could be great fits for the veteran defenseman.

Detroit Red Wings

If Martinez is looking to bank on the best contract possible, the Detroit Red Wings could be a good destination for him. They are a young team in the middle of a rebuild, but there is some serious optimism with their strong prospect pool.

Furthermore, Martinez hails from Michigan and played his high school hockey there. Thus, there is a sense of familiarity for him going to Detroit. He also has a past with Jeff Blashill, so perhaps he could convince him to sign there, too. It would give the Red Wings an experienced leader to help mentor their youngsters.

Seattle Kraken

The Seattle Kraken could be an interesting location for Martinez. They will have a lot of money to work with, as they will be building their team through the Expansion Draft. Signing a guy like Martinez would instantly give them a very reliable and talented left-handed defenseman.

If the Kraken are looking to be competitive from the gate, they should be aggressive with free agents. They are a team who can also afford paying a little extra, so why not do this with Martinez? He is not only coming off a magnificent year, but also played this postseason with a broken foot. That shows he is a real warrior, too.
