2 Teams Who Should Sign Nick Foligno

Nick Foligno is likely going to hit the open market this off-season. The Toronto Maple Leafs are tight with their salary cap and probably want to move on. Foligno had a rough tenure there, as he failed to score a single goal. The team also lost their 2021 first-round pick from the trade, too, so it is a hard pill to swallow. Thus, it make sense for both parties to move on from one another this summer.

Even with this being so, Foligno is still a veteran player other teams would love to add. The 33-year-old is a former captain who can provide great leadership both on and off the ice. He also is quite versatile, as he can slotted on either the wing or center. When seeing as how he plays with a hard-nosed style and can contribute offensively, he certainly is an appealing free agent. This is especially the case if he takes on a smaller salary.

These two teams should consider signing him this summer.

Columbus Blue Jackets

Since the very moment he was traded from the Columbus Blue Jackets, speculation started that he would come back. It would make a lot of sense, as he was their captain since the 2015-16 season and spent a great deal of time there.

There would be virtually no harm in them making this move. In fact, his former teammates would love to have him back. The Blue Jackets have also been linked to Jack Eichel, so it's clear that they want to be in the postseason again. Adding some veteran depth in Foligno as well would help their chances of making this come into fruition.

New York Rangers

Another option for Foligno to consider is the New York Rangers. Although they missed the postseason this year, they had a respectable record. They were simply just victims of a tough East Division. They also went through a major overhaul with their front office, as they fired both John Davidson and Jeff Gorton. This shows that they want to make real progress next season, so that could intrigue Foligno.

The Rangers have a very solid core of young players and a bright future. Yet, they could also benefit from adding more experience. Signing Foligno also would help strengthen their forward depth, which is a necessity for the playoffs. Furthermore, he also is a tough player, so it would help the kids be pushed around a bit less, too.
