2 Teams Who Should Trade For Sean Monahan
The Calgary Flames are expected to be busy this summer. After a very disappointing season that saw them miss the postseason, it is time rearrange this core. There are already rumors about a potential Johnny Gaudreau trade, but that is just the beginning. It has also been reported that they are willing to move Sean Monahan. He does have a 10 team no-trade clause, but the Flames have complete freedom to trade him to any franchise not on it. That leaves them with a lot to work with.
After registering 82 points during the 2018-19 season, Monahan has seen a significant decline in production. It appears that it is no longer working out between him and the Flames anymore. With him being just 26-years-old, there is hope that he can turn it around again, though. This will have other NHL teams calling, as he has shown in the past that he can be a true first-line center.
These two teams could be great fits for him if he accepts a deal to them.
Ottawa Senators
The Ottawa Senators finished the season marvelously, so there is a lot of optimism going into next season. Due to the fact that they also have a lot of money and assets to work with, they should consider bringing in a guy like Monahan. They are in need of a serious upgrade down the middle, too. He would instantly become their best center.
Another interesting fact is that Monahan played for the Ottawa 67s during his junior days. Thus, he has history with the city, which could make it an alluring spot for him.
New York Rangers
The New York Rangers also have a lot to work with when it comes to a potential Monahan trade. They have been linked to Jack Eichel, but if they strike out on him, Monahan could be a nice consolation prize. Playing for the Rangers could be enticing for him as well, as they have an array of quality prospects and are an Original Six franchise.
He also would form a nice one-two punch at center with Mika Zibanejad, which could help them find their way back into the playoffs. With Monahan also having two years left on his deal, they also would have a little time before having to start extension talks with him.
