2 Trade Options for Maple Leafs Travis Dermott
The Toronto Maple Leafs are likely going to lose Travis Dermott to the Seattle Kraken's expansion draft so there's some interest from the team to trade him before the draft. Dermott's fallen down the depth chart in Toronto, but the 24-year-old defenseman is still being coveted by other teams.
2 Potential Destinations for Dermott
Calgary Flames: The Flames are potentially going to lose Mark Giordano to Seattle and could entice the Kraken with a different defenseman. Dermott has the skating ability and hockey IQ to be a solid 4/5 defenseman and considering last season he made $874,125, his next contract shouldn't break the bank. The Leafs could get back a mid-level draft pick from the Flames and help them protect some of their other assets.
Dallas Stars: The Stars only have three legitimate NHL defenseman under contract for next season and are going to need some new recruits. Dermott's style of play could fit in nicely with the Stars and Dallas currently holds all their draft picks for the next three years, so there's plenty in the cupboard to get this deal done. Another more than a third-round pick is overpaying.
Dermott's days are numbered in Toronto, thanks to the likes of Rasmus Sandin and the signing last season of T.J Brodie. Either he's going to end up in Seattle, or the Leafs are going to sign him to a one-year deal, just to flip him to another team for a fresh start. Get ready for the busiest offseason in hockey history and you should see this Maple Leafs defenseman's name pop up at some point.
