Carolina Hurricanes Sign Brind'Amour to Huge Contract Extension
The Carolina Hurricanes have announced they are bringing back head coach Rod Brind'Amour for at least three more seasons after the two sides agreed to a contract extension this week.
There was no other place Brind'Amour wanted to coach and he's a man of the people. The biggest hurdle with these contract talks was apparently the aspect that not only did Brind'Amour want all his assistant coaches back, he wanted to make sure they were given raises as well.
Rod Brind’Amour: “I’d have a hard time doing this job somewhere else. This is a part of me...we’ve got a special group of players here, too. It never entered my mind that I would leave.”

Rod Brind’Amour: “I want to make a point, here. I feel like the richest coach in the world. I don’t know how many coaches can do their job where they live, where they’re from, where they’ve had a footprint on everything...the commitment we have from Tom: he wants to win.”

The ex-player turned elite coach has led the 'Canes to three straight playoff berths, something the franchise has never accomplished since relocating to Carolina in 1997. Pretty crazy to think before he showed up the team missed the playoffs nine straight seasons.
Brind'Amour is a finalist for the Jack Adams award as the league's top coach and he's the heavy favorite for the award. Here's what his general manager Don Waddell had to say about the extension:
Rod has been the driving force behind the culture change we've undergone here. He keeps our players motivated, demands accountability, and has our team ready to compete every night. He has truly raised the bar for our organization, and we're thrilled to have him continue as our coach for years to come
