Connor McDavid Wins Hart and Ted Lindsay Trophies

The Edmonton Oilers captain Connor McDavid has been named the winner of the Hart Trophy as league MVP by unanimous decision, as voted on by members of the media. McDavid finished the season with 33 goals and 73 assists for 105 points in 56 games, eclipsing the league's second-best scorer - teammate Leon Draisaitl - by 21 points. This is McDavid's second Hart Trophy win and third nomination in his six NHL seasons. McDavid also took home the Ted Lindsay Award, awarded to the league's best player as voted on by their peers. This is his third Ted Lindsay win, he becomes the seventh player in NHL history to win the award three times.

McDavid is only the second unanimous Hart Trophy winner in NHL history, joining former Oilers superstar Wayne Gretzky in that category. Wayne received all 63 media votes after scoring 92 goals and 212 points in the 82-83 season. McDavid received 100 out of 100 first places votes this season.

McDavid and Draisaitl also become the first teammates to win Hart Trophies in consecutive seasons since Phil Esposito in 68-69 and Bobby Orr in 69-70 and are only the fourth duo to do so in NHL history. They are the first teammates to win consecutive Ted Lindsay awards since Sidney Crosby in 11-12 and Evgeni Malkin in 12-13. That is some spectacular company to be keeping in the record books. Congrats to Connor!
