Edmonton Oilers Sign Ryan Nugent-Hopkins to Massive Extension

The Edmonton Oilers and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins have grinded all the way to a massive contract extension. The deal is for eight seasons and sees RNH make $5,125,000 annually.

There's been multiple reports that these negotiations were not easy and it's obvious that RNH wanted some job security but was also interested in taking a bit of a team-friendly discount in return. Worth noting the deal has a full no-movement clause. RNH made $6,000,000 last season, in a year that saw him score 35 points in 52 games.

The Oilers were concerned a couple of teams including the LA Kings were going to pounce on RNH on the open market and wanted to get a deal done before the July 28 free agency opening. The team now turns its attention to defensemen Adam Larsson and Tyson Barrie, who are both also pending free agents.
