NHL Announces King Clancy Award Finalists
The NHL Awards are around the corner and on Friday the league announced the finalists for the King Clancy award. The nominees included San Jose Sharks forward Kurtis Gabriel, Nashville Predators netminder Pekka Rinne and New Jersey Devils defenseman P.K. Subban.
The King Clancy award is handed out annually to the player who exemplifies leadership qualities on and off the ice and goes to someone who has made significant humanitarian contribution to their community.
All three players have done exactly so, and regardless of who wins, should be applauded for their efforts. Gabriel is a vocal ambassador for the LGBTQ+ community and often shares support via his social media channels.
King Clancy finalist @kurtisgabriel joined @Arda on the 1st Episode of Learn To Chel presented by @scotiabank to talk about #NHLPride month and what it means to be an ally to the LGBTQ+ community. #HockeyIsForEveryone

Rinne has done a tremendous amount of work for charity including his pediatric cancer charity he established back in 2012. The Preds goalie is very active with the children's hospital in Vanderbilt. Meanwhile Subban is up for the award for the third time, having taken his charity and community work from Montreal to Nashville and now to New Jersey. The Devils defenseman often would meet with frontline workers and members of the community during the pandemic.
Kudos to all three nominees for the King Clancy Award.
