Report: Maple Leafs to Re-Sign Wayne Simmonds

The Toronto Maple Leafs are reportedly in the works to bring back Wayne Simmonds. General manager Kyle Dubas and Simmonds' camp have been discussing a new contract for the rugged forward and according to Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet, the deal could be finalized soon.

Simmonds was a beast for the Leafs early on last season, but was slowed down after his untimely wrist injury where he was hit by a teammate's shot. Last season the 32-year-old scored seven goals and finished with nine points in 32 games. He only managed one assist in seven playoff games and looked a bit behind the pace. The Leafs are going to need Simmonds to step up when it matters most next season and ensure to fill his role for the playoffs.

The Maple Leafs mentioned early this offseason the team is looking for killer instinct and they certainly have more of this when Simmonds is in the lineup. Expect to see Simmonds sign a one or two-year deal worth around $1 million per season.
