Toronto Maple Leafs Sign Wayne Simmonds to Two-Year Extension

The Toronto Maple Leafs have announced they have signed veteran forward Wayne Simmonds to a two-year contract extension worth $900,000 annually on the salary cap.

Yesterday Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet reported the deal was close and there you have it, it's completed. Simmonds brought the Leafs some toughness and the team will need much more of this next season. He got off to a great start with the team but ended up getting hit in the wrist with the puck and was out for several weeks. After his injury it didn't look like Simmonds ever got back to his form he had before the injury.

Last season he ended it with nine points in 38 games and chipped in with one assist in seven playoff games. The Leafs will be using Simmonds on the team's fourth-line and could have some spot duty in front of the net on the power-play. Considering all the Leafs financial constraints, this deal is great value for the team.
