Video: Maple Leafs Jason Spezza Willing to Play for Free
The Toronto Maple Leafs announced on Wednesday they have re-signed veteran forward Jason Spezza to a one-year deal at the league minimum of $750,000. For someone with 30 points last season, that's certainly cheap, and it turns out Spezza would have taken less to play another season in Toronto.
The 38-year-old met with the media on Wednesday and made it known he's only interested in chasing a Stanley Cup, which is at the top of his mind everyday, and you can tell home much this guy just loves playing hockey. It's not about the money for Spezza as he's already made $88 million playing in the NHL and that's just his salary.
Here's what the veteran had to say about heading back to the ice with the Maple Leafs next season:
"All I care about is playing on a good team... if I could take less, I would."
