Video: Winnipeg Jets Mark Scheifele Shocked By Suspension

If you ask Mark Scheifele of the Winnipeg Jets he will tell you he thinks the NHL's Department of Player Safety was a bit excessive when they came down on him with a four game suspension for his hit on Montreal Canadiens forward Jake Evans.

Pretty excessive. I wasn’t expecting that, and I was pretty shocked. My intention on that play was to try and negate a goal. There's no intent or no malice there.

This hit has certainly sparked the debate on if it was a dirty play or a hockey play. Scheifele skated the length of the ice to get back into the play, as the Jets net was empty and he was trying to stop a goal. Where some people have a problem is the fact he never once attempted to play the puck or stop the puck.

The 28-year-old is not considered a dirty player and has no record of discipline on his file.  He's now eligible to return for Game 6 of the series against the Habs, assuming Winnipeg can make it that far. It's now going to be a lot harder without their #1 center.
