Winnipeg Jets Mark Scheifele Suspended 4 Games
The NHL's Department of Player Safety has announced that Winnipeg Jets forward Mark Scheifele has been suspended for four games after delivering a bone-crunching hit on Montreal Canadiens forward Jake Evans during Game 1 of their second round series.
The hit has certainly set the tone for the series as Scheifele basically charged all the way from centre ice to get back and make the hit. While it's the playoffs and everyone should be finishing their check, this was late, it was high, and it was a penalty. Scheifele isn't one to be a dirty player, but this was a dirty and uncalled for hit. As head coach Paul Maurice of the Jets put it, it was a heavy heavy hit.
The Jets will be in tough without their best forward who scored 63 points in 56 games this past regular season and has chipped in with five points in five playoff games. With how well Carey Price is playing, and how defensive the Habs can play, look for them to control the series with Scheifele out.
Shout out to Nik Ehlers who wanted nothing to do with the scrum and everything to do with the well-being of Jake Evans!
