2 Teams Who Should Sign Phillip Danault If The Canadiens Let Him Walk

Phillip Danault is having a solid postseason for the Montreal Canadiens. Upon first glance, one may assume that is not true, as he only has three assists in 19 games. However, he has been nothing short of spectacular when it comes to his defensive play. He has shut down the best forwards on every team the Canadiens have faced thus far. This was especially the case against Mark Stone and the Vegas Golden Knights.

If the Canadiens are unable to extend Danault, he should have many takers on the market. Although his offensive statistics were lower this season, he makes up for it defensively. He also has the potential to put up 40 to 50 points per season, too.

These two teams should be calling if Montreal lets him walk.

Ottawa Senators

With how strongly the Senators finished the season, they should look to add some talent this summer. Danault could be the perfect signing for them, as he would help strengthen their penalty kill and overall center depth. That position is an area where the Senators need improvement. He also could see his offensive numbers improve if he is given the chance to play with wingers like Brady Tkachuk and Tim Stuztle. The Senators also have money to work with, too. Overall, this seems like a very beneficial move for both parties.

St. Louis Blues

The Blues need to make some changes to become true contenders again. After losing in the first round of the playoffs for the second year in a row, they could use a center like Danault. He would be an upgrade from Tyler Bozak, who is also set to become a free agent. Some new faces are needed in St. Louis, as they current depth pieces just are not panning out. Adding Danault will give them another player who steps their play up during the playoffs, too. He is the perfect third-line center for a team like St. Louis.
