3 Moves The Dallas Stars Should Make This Summer

After they made it to Stanley Cup Final last season, the Dallas Stars seemed to be heading into the right direction. However, this season was hard for the team, as they ended the year with a 23-19-14 record. They did have two big injuries to Tyler Seguin and Ben Bishop, though. Going into this off-season, they should make some changes if they hope to be a playoff team again.

Here are three moves they should consider making.

Re-Sign Jamie Oleksiak: The Dallas Stars already re-signed Miro Heiskanen to an 8-year extension, but there's another defenseman they should give a new contract. Jamie Oleksiak has been a very solid defensive defenseman for this team, and it'll be hard to replace him. The 6'7" defenseman can impact the game significantly when it comes to his physical play. Yet, more importantly, he is extremely reliable on the backend and Dallas needs that.

Bring In Depth: The Stars are not going to have a lot of money to work with going into the off-season, especially if they re-sign Oleksiak. However, there are plenty of bargain free agents that they should look into signing. A big ongoing issue for them has been secondary scoring, so going after some bottom-six forwards should at least be considered. They also need to replace Jason Dickinson, as he was just traded to the Canucks.

Consider Moving A Veteran Goalie: It seemed that Anton Khudobin would be selected at the Expansion Draft by Seattle, but Ben Bishop waived his no-movement clause to prevent that. Yet, by doing this, the Stars have three NHL-caliber goaltenders. As previously stated, their cap space is a bit low and they could benefit from gaining more. A potential Bishop buyout has been discussed by Frank Seravalli and it could make sense. Trading Khudobin elsewhere is another option, as he should have some trade value. Ultimately, Jake Oettinger proved this season that he is ready for the NHL and deserves to be there next season.
