3 Moves The Detroit Red Wings Should Make This Summer

The Detroit Red Wings already made a big move this off-season when they traded for Nick Leddy. It was certainly a good one, as they gained a veteran top-four defenseman who will be a great mentor for the young guys. However, there is still more work to be done. This rebuilding team is slowly heading in the right direction and GM Steve Yzerman should be aiming to keep this trend going.

Here are three more moves they should look to make this summer.

Add Top-Six Forward: Although the Red Wings are in the middle of a rebuild, adding a top-six winger would be smart for them. This team is struggling significantly to produce offense, as defenseman Filip Hronek led the team in points with 26. Whether it be a center or winger, the Red Wings simply need at least one upgrade at forward. Perhaps they could try to sign versatile forward Blake Coleman, as an example.

Re-Sign Bobby Ryan: Bobby Ryan had a solid first season with the Red Wings, and he should be brought back. In 33 games, the 34-year-old had seven goals and 14 points. Had he not missed time, he could have been in the top half of scoring on the team. His leadership and hard work ethic are also two big factors as to why he deserves another contract.

Re-Sign RFA Jakub Vrana: Jakub Vrana was the main piece that came back from the Capitals in the Anthony Mantha trade. He was absolutely fantastic for the Red Wings, as he scored eight goals and registered 11 points in 11 games. This is the kind of offensive player they need to have playing with center Dylan Larkin moving forward. He also is only 25-years-old, so there is very little risk in signing him to a longer contract.
