3 Moves The Montreal Canadiens Should Make This Summer

The Montreal Canadiens just made it into the playoffs with a 24-21-11 record. However, they turned it on big time in the postseason and got all the way to the Stanley Cup Final. The future should be bright for this team moving forward, as they have a lot of young talent that should continue to improve. However, there is still more work for them to do this off-season. The Atlantic Division is full of good teams, so it would not hurt to add more talent to the roster.

Here are three moves they need to make this summer.

Re-Sign Corey Perry: At the beginning of the season, the Montreal Canadiens placed Corey Perry on waivers. It's funny looking back on that now, as he turned out to be a huge player for them after going unclaimed. In 49 games, the 36-year-old winger had nine goals and 21 points. He played bottom-six minutes, but was one of their most noticeable contributors. He also had 10 points in 22 playoff games, so he really has earned another contract. He also has stated that he wants to stay, so Montreal should get it done.

Sign Right-Handed Defenseman: Elliotte Friedman has predicted that the Canadiens will be adding David Savard this off-season. This would be a good signing, as the team will be without Shea Weber for the entirety of next season. Although Savard is not at the same caliber as Weber, he does play very physically and is a top-four defenseman. At the end of the day, they simply need to sign someone new to help strengthen their blueline. They won't find a Weber-level replacement on the open market.

Add Center: If the Canadiens are not able to bring back Phillip Danault, they will need to be on the hunt for a new center. It would be ideal for them to bring in at least a middle-six one. They have been linked to Jack Eichel, but that seems like a longshot. There are also some interesting free agents who can play center, too. Blake Coleman and Mikael Granlund are two examples. They also can move to the wing if needed, too.
