3 Moves The Philadelphia Flyers Need To Make This Off-Season
With the Philadelphia Flyers taking a monstrous step back this season, they are due for some changes. They had a 25-23-8 record and finished sixth in the East Division. This was certainly disappointing, as many envisioned them being one of the top teams going into the year. With a big off-season, perhaps they can become the team they were back in 2019-20 again.
Here are three moves they should make this summer.
Get Rid Of Jakub Voracek: This an easy decision. The team plans on leaving Voracek exposed at the Expansion Draft, so maybe the Kraken will pick him. He is coming off a decent year offensively and still is a top-six winger. If they do not choose him, a trade should be in order. Losing his $8.25 million cap hit would help them be able to bring in other players.
Add A Top-Two, Right-Handed Defenseman: Yes, every team wants to do this, but the Flyers absolutely need to. They have two options who stand out as potential fits in Dougie Hamilton and Seth Jones. They should at least try to sign Hamilton, as he would form a great top pair with Ivan Provorov. Jones could be a good backup option, but he only has one year left on his contract and plans to test the market next off-season.
Sign Goalie: With all of the struggles Carter Hart had this season, it would make sense to bring in a strong backup goalie. Ideally, the best course of action would be to form a 1A-1B tandem. Brian Elliot had an .889 save percentage this season, so an upgrade is needed. Hart should be able to bounce back because he's young and has great potential, but some insurance would be nice. Some potential free agent options include Jonathan Bernier, Linus Ullmark and Jaroslav Halak.
Honorable Mention: Re-signing Hart and Travis Sanheim must happen, too. Yet, with them being restricted free agents, this should not be a problem.
