3 Moves The San Jose Sharks Need To Make This Summer

It already has been established that the San Jose Sharks won't commit to a full rebuild. Thus, this off-season, they need to make smart decisions to help improve the team. They have a little over $10 million of cap space, which makes bringing in an elite talent likely out of the question. Yet, they still have options to work with to help strengthen the roster. This is a true necessity, as they finished last season with a 21-28-7 record.

Here are three moves they should make this summer.

Buyout Martin Jones And Bring In New Goalie: Martin Jones is a buyout candidate, which makes sense after how much he has struggled these last three seasons. He also has three years left on his contract and it carries a $5.75 cap hit. It would be best to buyout Jones, as it would give them extra cap space. From there, they would have plenty of options via free agency to find a replacement. Jaroslav Halak, Chris Driedger and Linus Ullmark are some examples.

Trade Evander Kane: It was reported last month that the Sharks are hoping to trade Evander Kane. There have been issues in the locker room and he has been a major cause. It is hard to determine his trade value because of his controversial past, but at this point, a trade of any kind would be for the best. It would give the Sharks $7 million of cap space and ultimately help team morale.

Sign Top-Six Winger: Even if the Sharks elect to keep Jones and Kane, they do have money to bring in a top-six winger. This free agency period coincidentally has many available wingers, too. Some players who come to mind are Zach Hyman, Tomas Tatar and Mikael Granlund. Yet, these are just a few examples of potential fits. Also, if they trade Kane, they may want to bring in two forwards who can play in the top-six.
