3 Moves The Winnipeg Jets Need To Make This Off-Season

The Winnipeg Jets should be a busy team this off-season. Although they have a pretty good team on paper, they were a bit underwhelming this season. Being swept by the Montreal Canadiens in the second round of the postseason shows this. With players like Mark Scheifele, Blake Wheeler and Connor Hellebuyck making up the core, they simply need to have more success. With some good off-season decisions, the Jets can certainly make this come into fruition.

Here are three moves that they need to do this summer.

Extend RFA Logan Stanley: Although Logan Stanley did not shock the NHL world offensively, he is becoming a very dependable defensive defenseman. The former first round pick is somebody who is continuing to progress and has all the tools to be a top-four defenseman in the near future. He also was one of the few bright spots for the Jets this postseason, so there's a lot of optimism about him.

Sign Or Trade For A Top-Four, Right-Handed Defenseman: The Winnipeg Jets absolutely need to bring in at least one top-four right-handed defenseman. It has been their weakest area since the departure of Dustin Byfuglien. Thankfully for them, there are some options available. Both Rasmus Ristolainen and Matt Dumba could be dealt this summer, so the Jets should be calling about them. The same can be said about Seth Jones, but he is a top-two defenseman, so that will require trading more assets. Also, they could even try to sign Dougie Hamilton, but he will be expecting a lot of money on the open market.

Re-Sign UFA Paul Stastny: Paul Stastny has been a very important piece for the Winnipeg Jets. In 56 games this season, he registered 13 goals and 29 points. He has been open about loving the city and would likely not cost the Jets too much. His versatility and effective two-way play would make losing him tough. There aren't many better centers than Stastny available via free agency, so the Jets will have a hard time replacing him. On a short-term deal, bringing back Stastny would be smart.
