3 Players The Seattle Kraken Must Avoid From The Metropolitan Division
With the Expansion Draft tonight, the Seattle Kraken have an abundance of potential players to choose from. There are many notable players available, such as Carey Price and Vladimir Tarasenko, who they will certainly consider selecting. Yet, there are some players who absolutely should be avoided at all costs.
There are players to stay away from in every single division, so we will be taking a look at each of them before tonight.
In this piece, we will be taking a gander at the Metropolitan Division.
Tony DeAngelo (New York Rangers): The New York Rangers have yet to officially buyout Tony DeAngelo, so he will be exposed at the Expansion Draft. It is easy to understand why the Kraken should avoid him. He was essentially cut from the Rangers after a post-game altercation with teammates. Although he can be a very productive offensive defenseman, there are plenty of serviceable options that come with far less risk and drama. Thus, passing on him is a no-brainer.
Thomas Hickey (New York Islanders): Thomas Hickey is a player who the Kraken will avoid. Besides the fact that the Islanders have exposed both Jordan Eberle and Josh Bailey, Hickey is not the player he once was. After a respectable 25-point season in 2017-18, he struggled significantly and found himself sent down to the AHL. He did, however, finally get called up this season, but only suited up in five games with the team. At this stage, he appears to be a fringe NHLer at best. That does not mesh well with his $2.5 million cap hit.
Jakub Voracek (Philadelphia Flyers): With there being so many other cheaper top-six forwards available for the Kraken now, they would be wise to pass on Jakub Voracek. The 31-year-old has a $8.25 million cap hit and three years left on his deal. Also, the Flyers have veteran winger James van Riesmdyk available. He produces at a similar rate as Voracek, but only has two years left at a $7 million cap hit. He may be the smarter forward choice because he is an older player who is both cheaper and has less term. Also, Shayne Gostisbehere could be worth selecting, too.
