3 Underrated Players The Seattle Kraken Should Take From The Metropolitan Division
The Expansion Draft is just two days away and it seems like it is going to be wild. There are a lot of big-name players available for the taking, and they naturally are being talked about a lot. When looking at the Metropolitan Division, it accounts for many of them. The New York Islanders and Philadelphia Flyers alone each have two top-six forwards that the Kraken can take. However, there are also some underrated players that the Kraken can pick from this division, too.
Here are three that they should seriously consider.
Colin Blackwell (New York Rangers): At 28-years-old, Colin Blackwell had his real breakout season this year with the Rangers. In 47 games, he had 12 goals and registered 22 points. Before this season, he spent the majority of his professional career in the AHL and only had 32 career NHL games under his belt. His hard work ethic and tenacious style of play could make him an excellent addition to the Kraken's bottom-six. He also only has a $725,000 cap hit, which is extremely low for how well he did this year.
Brandon Tanev (Pittsburgh Penguins): With top-six winger Jason Zucker available for the taken, many people may want the Kraken to take him. Yet, Brandon Tanev would also be a great selection, as he is a fantastic penalty killer because of his solid defensive play. This season also saw an increase in his offensive production, as he had 16 points in 32 games. He would make an excellent third-liner for the Kraken. He has four years left on his contract and it carries a $3.5 million cap hit.
Jake Bean (Carolina Hurricanes): Nino Niederreiter has been left exposed by the Carolina Hurricanes, and he scored 20 goals this season. Yet, the Kraken should elect to take offensive defenseman, Jake Bean. He is only 23-years-old and has the tools to become a solid top-four defenseman in this league. As a rookie this season, he appeared in 42 games and recorded 12 total points. He is just getting his career started and has tremendous upside.
