Alexander Edler Has A New Home

For all 15 of his NHL seasons, Alexander Edler was a member of the Vancouver Canucks. Now, he has officially joined his second team. The 35-year-old defenseman has signed a one-year, $3.5 million contract with the Los Angeles Kings.

Edler should stand a real shot of playing top-four minutes for the Kings moving forward. However, it also is important to note that he is coming off of a down season. In 52 games, he only recorded eight assists and was a -8. Yet, in 2019-20, he had a great season, as he scored five goals and registered 33 points in 59 games. The Kings are hoping to have that player moving forward.

Nonetheless, even if he fails to replicate his past success, the Kings are still getting a grizzled veteran who will provide strong leadership. It is always important to have players like Edler on young teams, so Los Angeles should benefit from having him.

They are having a pretty big off-season so far, as they signed both Edler and Phillip Danault already. We will see what happens next with them.
