Alexander Edler Is Heading To Free Agency
Alexander Edler has spent the entirety of his long NHL career with the Vancouver Canucks. Yet, he will not be re-signing with the team, which was confirmed on CHEK TV by his agent Mark Stowe. Instead, he wants to test the free agent market for the first time ever. Given the fact that he is older now, this does seem like his one last chance to cash in.
Edler played 925 career games with the Canucks, while scoring 99 goals and recording 409 points. Even with him being 35-years-old at this point, he can work quite nicely as a bottom-pair defenseman. He also can still effectively quarterback a team's power play, whether it be on the first or second unit.
It'll be strange seeing Edler playing for a different team next season. He has been such a huge part of the Canucks for so long. Teams who are looking for a veteran presence should definitely give him a call, though. He has a ton of experience.
